The Glasgow Research Partnership (GRP) is an exciting and dynamic new collaboration in Engineering research between the Universities of the West of Scotland. Led by the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, with significant niche contributions from Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of Paisley, the GRP will establish critical mass of research excellence in key strategic areas of Engineering. It will confirm the West of Sctoland as a major world centre for Engineering.

The GRP will focus its research in three Joint Research Institutes (JRIs) that each address three key engineering research themes. The JRIs are:

  • Electronic, Communications and Power Systems
  • Environmental, Infrastructure and Transportation Engineering
  • Mechanics of Materials, Structures and BioEngineering

The partnership is underpinned by investment of more than £31M, including £15.7M from the Scottish Funding Council. This will support the appointment of 25 new academic staff of world class research standing, 8 research assistants and 31 research students and will fund major investments in equipment and estates. Together with a joint graduate school and closer integration and pooling of existing facilites this will create an unrivalled research enviroment to support critical sectors of the National economy.
